SUMMER kicked off in style in Winnersh earlier this month, thanks to its local fete.

Hundreds of residents from near and far descended on Bearwood Recreation Ground on Saturday, June 17, for the annual shindig, celebrating its 10th year, which saw entertainment provided by 56 local charities, voluntary groups and businesses.

Children and grown-ups delighted in the Circus Scene entertainers, bouncy castle and mega slide, while a birds of prey display and morris dancing kept the whole family entertained.

Winnersh Churches provided cakes and cream teas in the hall, while the local Scouts manned the barbecue, serving up delicious hot dogs, burgers and drinks.

This year, Just Around the Corner and Winnersh in Need benefited from the central fund raising, while all the voluntary groups kept their own ‘profits’ which ran into thousands of pounds.

Fete Working Group Chairman, John Southgate said: “We were extremely pleased with the record turnout of both stallholders and residents enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and with the comments from participants that the fete continues to have such a friendly atmosphere.

“Our thanks go to all those who came along, the stallholders, and all the others who made the fete happen, not least the Earley ATC for manning the car park.”
